The trigger
One little thing can trigger a beautiful movement. In most cases, we aren’t even aware of the impact we have. That’s why a gesture of politeness or sincerity is so powerful in life. Yesterday, a simple tweet that led to a blogpost about daily blogging triggered me to start straight away. I didn’t wait but jumped aboard the same day. So this is a post about why you should also start today.
The reality
We procrastinate a lot. Much more than we are aware of. Want to have a quick check on how much you procrastinate? Measure your time spend on your phone. Use a productivity app to measure what you spend your time on, on your computer. Are go the classical route. Keep a journal for 2 weeks, noting down your activities every 15 minutes (or after the task is done). The result might be confronting, so once you’re done. Throw away your research and don’t ever look at it again.
There is a saying that the greatest ideas and dreams end up in the graveyard. At a certain age, we often get stuck in day-to-day life, living from day to day with a clear or not so clear structure, from week to week, month to month, year to year. Some of us even wished we actually had that and are just trying to survive. If I’m struggling to make ends meet, I really can’t start something new right?
Do you do what you love doing?
Well, it depends. If there is something that you love doing and it brings you immense joy, it is definitely worth starting right away. The thing is, if it is a priority, you will find the time to make it happen. If you don’t find the time, it isn’t a high enough priority. In reality, we often put off things we enjoy doing for ourselves, to do things we don’t enjoy doing for others. Which takes more time, more effort and sometimes doesn’t even get done at all. In some cases, you don’t even know how to do it. But get peer pressured into accepting that task, eventually under-delivering or not delivering at all.
So start today
That’s why you need to start today. You should do it for yourself. To make you happier in life. And not only will you make it a priority, but doing the thing you love will also bring happiness to other parts of your life and open the door for new opportunities. Whether it is drinking a healthy amount of water, exercising daily, spending quality time with your loved ones, developing a skill, creating something new, just start.
But what if you fail? We’ll talk about that tomorrow.
